Hi everyone,

I have been trying to find simple ways to reduce plastic waste in my kitchen, and washing food storage bags for reuse is something I want to learn more about. I often use Ziploc bags for sandwiches, snacks, and storing food, but some bags still look clean after one use. Instead of immediately throwing them away, I would like to understand when reuse is safe and how to clean suitable bags properly.

My main question is how to wash ziploc bags in the dishwasher without damaging the plastic or leaving food residue inside. I know that some reusable food storage bags are dishwasher-safe, but I am not sure whether ordinary disposable Ziploc bags can handle the heat and water pressure during a dishwasher cycle.

For those who have experience with this, do you turn the bags inside out before washing them? I imagine that opening the bags fully could help water reach the inside surfaces. I am also curious about how to keep lightweight bags from flipping over or filling with water during the cycle.

Another concern is the dishwasher temperature. Would a lower-temperature setting be more appropriate, or should I avoid the dishwasher entirely when cleaning disposable bags? I do not want the plastic to melt, warp, or become unsuitable for food storage.

I have also seen bag-washing accessories designed to hold bags open during cleaning. Has anyone tried a Bag Washer or a similar product with reusable food storage bags? I would appreciate honest feedback about whether it makes cleaning and drying easier.

Of course, I understand that bags used for raw meat, fish, or eggs may carry contamination risks and should generally be discarded rather than reused.

My goal is to reduce waste without compromising food safety. If you regularly clean reusable bags, please share your preferred washing method, drying tips, and advice about which bags are suitable for dishwasher cleaning. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
